3A – Your Entrepreneurship Story

My parents first introduced me to entrepreneurship, my mother was a tax preparer and my father sold used cars. They both made me realize first hand that entrepreneurship is a 24/7 job and not as something that can give much more free time than having a full-time job as an employee. I remember I used to hate it when my parents would have hourlong business phone calls when we were supposed to be on vacation or having dinner. Now, as an adult, I act the same way. As an entrepreneur, your business IS your life so it's very hard to try to have a work/life balance that being an employee would offer. I am very glad that I learned early on that hard work is apart of being an entrepreneur and that there are really no breaks.

I enrolled in ENT 3003 in hopes to better understand the philosophy of entrepreneurship and to put words and definitions to the entrepreneurial experiences my parents gave me growing up. They were self-taught so they only taught me how to be business street smart .

  1. Hello Lillian, I share a similar entrepreneur exposure to your father selling used cars. One of my uncle works in San Jose, California and buys cars with a salvage title. He then repairs it and sells them for profit. He spends very long hours to fix the car to a working condition and make them cool appealing. On top of that, he must find customers, negotiate a price, and sell them on top of his work. I agree that entrepreneurship is a daily job and one can be very consumed with their job especially if they are passionate about their work.
